Sheffield Botanical Gardens
The 19-acre Sheffield Botanical Gardens, Grade-II listed landmark, was founded in 1836 and features over 5,000 types of plants. This is a great place for a walk, especially in the spring and summer months. Visiting the gardens is a great place for a family day out. The grounds host a variety of music, art, and activities, and the best part is that entrance is free. You may also want to unwind in the on-site café after exploring all of the botanical delights, where they offer typical café delights such as tea, cake and scones.
National Videogame Museum
The National Videogame Museum is the UK’s national cultural institution for videogames. They are on a mission to collect, preserve, show, and explain videogames for everyone. Inside the iconic Castle House building in Sheffield, you’ll find an interactive museum dedicated to exploring the culture, playfulness, design and people behind videogames, as well as encouraging visitors to develop their own game-making abilities.
Emergency Services Museum
In the world’s largest combined Emergency Services Museum, let your imagination go wild! The museum, which dates from 1898, is housed in one of Yorkshire’s first purpose-built integrated Police, Fire, and Ambulance Stations. You’ll see everything from horse-drawn fire engines and ambulances to police cars. There is even an RNLI boat on display across three floors of exhibitions, all housed within this gorgeous old structure.
Millennium gallery
Sheffield’s Millennium Gallery is the city’s premier destination for art, craft, and design. Here you can view some of Sheffield’s unique history, such as the world-famous metalwork, as well as modern art and design shows. As well as being home to the city’s unique Ruskin and metalwork collections, the Millennium Gallery hosts some of the best touring exhibitions in the UK, from partners including the V&A, Tate and National Portrait Gallery.
Winter Garden
Sheffield’s Winter Garden is one of the largest temperate glasshouses in the UK, and the largest urban glasshouse in Europe. The structure is 70 metres long and 22 metres tall, which is enough to house 5000 domestic greenhouses. The garden also houses over 2500 plants from all over the world. The Winter Garden is the perfect retreat in the heart of Sheffield, with easy access from the Millennium Gallery, Millennium Square, and Tudor Square.
